Brothers,

A devotion to Saint Joseph is critical for any husband and father. Commenting on the virtues of Joseph, Pope Saint John Paul II said, “Joseph did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took his wife” (cf.  Mt 1:24). Inspired by the Gospel, the Fathers of the Church from the earliest centuries stressed that just as St. Joseph took loving care of Mary and gladly dedicated himself to Jesus Christ’s upbringing, he likewise watches over and protects Christ’s Mystical Body, that is, the Church…” And again, Pope Saint Leo XIII challenged all the faithful to emulate Joseph in their daily lives, saying that “the devotion to St. Joseph should engraft itself upon the daily pious practices of Catholics” (Quamquam Pluries).

Brothers, you must ask yourselves the question: “How am I imitating Joseph in my daily life?”  We, as signers of the letter, have committed ourselves to the purification of our own hearts, the sanctification of our own families, and the virtuous rearing of our own sons.  Fundamentally, we seek to lead our families as Joseph lead his family. Thus, we must take Joseph as our model, and today we ask you to pray and fast through his intercession.
